Expressing Life

Proudly #BloggingToFeedAChild :)

I saw those who fled
as the signal turned red

I switched the radio channel
and set the sun avoiding panel

Just eighty more seconds to go
I wondered if the clock was working slow?

A tiny hand appeared on my side
My face changed color to an angry tide

I took out a penny and handed over
The kid closed his palm and handed me a flower

The signal turned green and the honking started
I changed the gear as the child departed

Passed two signals, similar faces stared
A hand raised and face smeared

My face was ashen as my home came near
What about those kids? stood the fear

Driving down the same road every day
The turmoil would always stay

What should I do or can I do something?
Or is it much ado about nothing?

The answer came to me through BlogAdda.com.

Every day millions of children are forced to choose between hunger and education. Without access to even one square meal a day they have to work to help support their family, at the cost of their future success.

The gurgles in their stomach forcing them to work tirelessly in the age of studying and playing.
Those little hands that wait for people like us to drop a penny have as much right to live a healthy life as we do. The difference, dear friends, is money.

Poverty has caused millions of children to work for gathering a day’s meal. The constitution of India has made education, a fundamental right of every child. But these children skip schools to fill their stomach by working. parents in villages prefer their children to be working in the fields instead of listening to a teacher telling tales of the past because a hungry soul cannot be taught whom Maratha fought! they think education is a waste of time as they prioritize money and food over education.
they prefer their children to be unskilled laborers instead of skilled owing to the hollow sounds in their stomachs.

We can bring about the change in the dark childhood of these little children by –

  • Donating to NGOs/NPOs working for the cause
  • Taking out time to teach them ourselves
  • Sponsoring meals at schools or such organisations
  • Spreading social awareness about this.

The ways to eliminate this classroom hunger are not limited to my thinking. Imagine what India would be like if no child goes hungry and an entire generation is educated.
It’s time we start taking responsibility and stop shooing away those little kids who knock at your glass to sell something or to grab a penny.

Many NGOs are working to eliminate this classroom hunger and I am supporting this cause with Akshaya Patra. Akshaya Patra, a non-profit organisation is providing ‘Mid-Day Meal’ to 1.4 million children in India. Unlike the unhygienic meals provided by many of the government schools, this NPO provides a purely healthy meal, approved by doctors. for more information you can visit Akshaya Patra’s official website – http://www.akshayapatra.org/

I am going to #BlogToFeedAChild with Akshaya Patra and BlogAdda.

For every blog post I write, BlogAdda will sponsor meals for an Akshaya Patra beneficiary for an entire year, as a part of their Bloggers Social Responsibility.

I am thankful to Blogadda and Akshaya Patra to provide me with this opportunity to make the life of one little child happier and healthier.
