‘I Choose to Be Real’ -#1000Speak for Compassion
‘The best way to show someone that you care for them is to accept them for who they are.’ ~ Radhika Mundra |
I’m sure you must have heard or read words similar to the above several times by now. I’m sure you must have nodded in approval every single time.
But do you really agree? Have you adhered to the aforesaid words?

It’s not hard to agree with something, the hard part is to actually practice it. There is no doubt that ‘a pen is mightier than the sword’, but the same is overpowered by ‘actions speak louder than words’.
There have been certain situations in my life that I have detested myself like anything for not having the best hair, the best body or even the best wardrobe because every time I thought I was the best, life put forth someone even better to make me fall on my back with a big thud.

I whine about not having those cute footwears that my friend owns even though I own several dozens myself. I always feel a little less fortunate to have not spotted the pretty top that the other lady now has in her hand which I could have grabbed had I been a little more attentive. I’m unable to satisfy myself with my own self whenever I see someone better. Yes, I’m one of the people who nod their heads and I fail to accept myself as I am, let alone others.
Now, I say it with pride that I’m learning to accept myself for who I am. It has become evident to me that as long as I myself do not accept me for who I am, no one else would. So what if I have a curvy body, I’m not ashamed of it. I can work out rigorously for days and enter the skinny race but who cares! tis my choice.

~ Nathaniel Branden
When self-acceptance is something that you manage to hold on to, there is nothing or no one who can make you feel bad about yourself. To be accepted among others is a far-off subject. The first and foremost lesson is to accept yourself as you. When you manage to be your real self, it becomes easy to accept others just the way they are.
Self-acceptance here is not meant to defy the rule, ‘Change is the only constant’ rather a different approach to bring the change.
You may not have the best eyes in the world or be the most beautiful face in your immediate circle but know that when you accept yourself, the quest for being the best is won at that instant.
So instead of nodding heads to quotes about acceptance, accept yourself and others with their real self.

Beautiful quotes and quite an enlightening post Radhika 🙂
Cheers

Self acceptance is something I personally struggle with. The funny part is I look to help others out most of the time… but I get hypocritical when it comes to myself. I believe others deserve the best but don't feel I do so myself.
Radhika! What an empowering and inspiring post. It's all about being accepted to be taken and showed the light by an invisible force but only if we accept to! It will help us conquer our fears. I am striving towards self acceptance and working on it, slowly. The quotes in the post are so powerful.

How right you are when you say practicing is the toughest part. And yeah, we tend to beat ourselves up when we realize we are not all that perfect and cool, but that is what is being real all about, isn't it ?
Nice article.
Thanks so much, Geets! 🙂
Well, we're all struggling with our inner demons, aren't we? The day we conquer them, we'll truly accept ourselves. Thanks for sharing your thought, Roshan.
It sure is, Sampada! Thanks for sharing your thoughts! 🙂
